Saadani National Park
Saadani National Park
Brief Overview
Along the coast of Indian ocean in Tanzania ,lies one of the most beautiful Park, Saadani. The park was of officially a National Park in 2005 from the former Saadani game reserve. Being the only National Park that harbors both marine and terrestrial habitats, Saadani has plenty of marine life and large numbers of wild animals. It is not surprising to encounter wild animals on the beach in this coastal Park.
Saadani is one of the fewer breeding site for endangered Green Sea Turtles and the only Tanzania Park to protect the mangrove forest. The coastal forest in this unique park harbors rare species of Black and white Colobus Monkeys. Visitor to this place will have an opportunity to do a game drive in the savannah part of the park and enjoy the beautiful unspoiled beach that lies within the Park.
Saadani National Park Highlights
Although protected as a game reserve since the 1960s, in 2002 Saadani National Park was expanded to cover twice its former area. The reserve suffered greatly from poaching prior to the late 1990s, but in 2005, it was officially designated a National Park. A concerted effort to stop poachers and collaboration with nearby villages has resulted in a rich renewal of both the landscape and its inhabitants. With the added advantages of the nearby river and spectacular views of the Indian Ocean, game drives here have become as rewarding as in Tanzania’s other great national parks.
Why Saadani?
Saadani is the only spot where you can enjoy both game drives and a relaxing beach vacation. As it’s often overlooked, there are no large crowds, providing for a far more personalized, private stay. Saadani gives very different beach experience from what you might encounter on Zanzibar, offering a great alternative for people who don’t want that feeling of safari to end but still want to spend time relaxing on the beach.
