Kilimanjaro combination safari is an excellent Tanzania vacation for active people who want to learn more. The incredible Kilimanjaro Mountain climb and a brief safari in northern Tanzania to the parks of Serengeti, Lake Manyara, and Ngorongoro Crater, each with their own ambiance and wildlife, are highlights of this trip. This 12 days Kilimanjaro and a short Tanzania safari begin when we pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transport you to the Masai land safari lodge in Arusha for supper and your stay.
You will have 6 days for Kilimanjaro hiking on the Machame route and 5 days for a Tanzania mid-range lodge safari during your precious 12 days of Kilimanjaro combination safari in Tanzania.
Day 01: Arrival Day for Your Mt. Kilimanjaro And Safari Tours
You will land at Kilimanjaro International Airport on this day, where our operations manager or one of our climbers for Mount Kilimanjaro will greet you outside the arrivals area and lead you to a private transfer car that is waiting for you and your travel companions. You will be transported to a hotel in Moshi, the town that serves as the starting point for climbers of Mount Kilimanjaro, or to a lodge in the village of Machame, which is located at the base of the mountain. Spend the night at the Park View Inn or the Aishi Machame Hotel.
Day 02: (Kilimanjaro Climb) Machame Gate—Machame Camp
On the 2nd day of your 12 Days Mount Kilimanjaro and wildlife Safari, you will be taken to the Machame Park Gate, which is located at 5,870 feet (1,790 meters), after breakfast at your lodge at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa’s rooftop). You will be dropped off at the Machame Gate of the park, where you can register with the park authority. After that, we will start our ascent through the lower elevations of the lush green forest. While trekking, you will probably hear a variety of exotic birds chirping in the dense canopy above you. With any luck, you will also get to witness the stunning black-and-white colobus monkeys and the cheeky Sykes monkeys. You will reach some heathland as you continue hiking along the tangled roots before we arrive at your first mountain camp, where you will spend the night. At the nearby Machame Camp, where you will spend the night (9,875 feet). The camp is right above the forest zone, so you will have hiked for about five to seven hours today.
Day 03 (Kilimanjaro Climb) Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Although this is your second day on the mountain, it is the third day in Tanzania. Today’s hike will take place amid stunning heathland and afro-alpine moorland, and from here, on a clear day, you will enjoy some breath-taking views of Mount Kilimanjaro Peak. The journey starts with a hard ascent through a savannah of giant Erica and Heather trees and thick grasses. When you journey across the moorland zone on this day, you may need to scramble around some sizable boulders. This area is characterized by giant lobelia and senecia plants as well as volcanic rocks covered in lichen beards that protect the wild alpine flowers that grow at their bases. After walking for roughly 4-5 hours today, you will spend the night at Shira Camp along the Machame Trail, which is located at an elevation of 12,615 feet.
Day 04 (Kilimanjaro Climb): Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
On the 4th day of your 12 Days Mount Kilimanjaro and wildlife Safari, after breakfast at the camp, we set off again. On this day, as we come closer to the summit and the Lava Tower, respectively, the hike gets a little bit tougher on this day as the trail steepens as we get closer to the lava tower, a stunning 300-foot-tall volcanic plug that marks an exposed pass at about 15,000 feet.
We make the steep descent into the Great Barranco Valley’s floor this afternoon. You will arrive at Barranco Camp at this point, which is located in a flat region surrounded on three sides by the Kibo massif itself and high valley walls. Depending on the day’s weather, the lovely hanging glaciers glisten in the sunlight above, surrounded by an unsettling scene of indigenous Giant Lobelia trees and enormous grasses. You will arrive at today’s overnight halt at Barranco Camp, which is located at approximately 12,990 feet, after a 5- to 6-hour ascent on this day.
Day 05 (Kilimanjaro Climb): Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
We will start the day with a descent into the Gorge before continuing to ascend its eastern wall after breakfast at the Mountain Camp. You may take in breathtaking views of the ice fields of Mount Kilimanjaro from here, which are unquestionably an equatorial anomaly. The lava ridge will be our guide as we go up the hill until we arrive at Barafu Camp, where we will set up camp for the night. When you get closer to Barafu Camp, the temperature will have gotten colder and the foliage will be sparser than it has been up to this point. The Barafu Camp serves as the base camp from which we will attempt the summit later tonight, beginning at midnight. The camp is located on a small, exposed flat area on a ridge. This evening, after a leisurely dinner, you will unwind in preparation for a midnight start. In order to get to the Barafu Camp today, which is located at 15,225 feet, you will have to hike for roughly 6 to 7 hours.
Day 06: (Mount Kilimanjaro Climb) Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp
When we awaken just after midnight, we begin the arduous trek’s “final assault” (12 to 17 hours of trekking). First, we start our ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro at around noon and continue until one in the morning (depending on our physical condition, which the guide will have already determined), passing between the Rebmann Glacier and Tarzel Glacier to the rim before arriving at <strong>The Stella Point, one of the major high points. Here, the temperature varies from just below freezing at midnight to between 10 and 10 degrees below zero at the summit just before morning (quite cold by African standards). We will arrive at Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa at 19,341 feet (approx 5895 meters above sea level). The conclusion and reward for roughly 6–7 hours of challenging upward hiking will be Uhuru Summit. We will return to Barafu Camp, where we began, after a brief celebration of your accomplishments and photo ops at the Peak. We take a short break here before continuing our ascent to Mweka Camp (10,105 feet, 3–4 hours of walking on the descent). This day has been long yet fruitful. Always follow the guide’s advice and drink plenty of water.
Day 07: (End of Mount Kilimanjaro Climb) Mweka Camp to Park Gate—Arusha Town
On the 7th day of your 12 Days Mount Kilimanjaro and wildlife Safari, on this final day of your trip, you will have breakfast at the Mweka Camp before making your final descent to the Mweka Gate of Mount Kilimanjaro and Kilimanjaro National Park. You may complete this downhill hike in two to three hours. Your Mount Kilimanjaro guide and porters will bid you farewell at the park gate, and a waiting car will transport you to Arusha, where you can relax in preparation for your Tanzania wildlife safari, which will begin tomorrow, and explore the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit. Spend the night on the outskirts of Arusha town at the Tulia Boutique Hotel & Spa.
Day 08 (Tanzania Safari): Arusha, Tarangire National Park
After breakfast at the hotel in Arusha, you will drive to Tarangire National Park, one of the top parks in the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit, to begin your safari there. Upon arrival, you will stop briefly at the park’s entrance to complete some paperwork before beginning your first game drive in the sizable park, which is currently Tanzania’s fifth-largest. Tarangire National Park is well-known for its vast elephant herds and gigantic baobab trees, but it is the Tarangire River, the park’s lifeblood, that attracts so many species year-round and makes it such a fascinating place to see wildlife. Elephants, lions, zebras, warthogs, impalas, gazelles, buffaloes, dik diks, gerenuks, cheetahs, and even leopards with a little luck are among the numerous animals and birds that you may expect to encounter in this park. You will be driven to Karatu later in the day, where you will check in for dinner and the night. Karatu tented lodge for the night.
Day 09 (Tanzania Safari): Tarangire National Park and Serengeti National Park
After a hearty breakfast at the Karatu tented lodge, your safari will continue with a drive to Serengeti National Park through the Great Rift Valley (with lovely scenery along the way) and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving at the Serengeti by midday. You will begin your game drives in the interior of Serengeti National Park after a brief stop at the Naabi Hill Gate, where you will register and likely have your picnic lunch. On these drives, you will explore the Seronera Valley, a well-known and wildlife-rich part of the park. Continue your game drives throughout the entire afternoon, and at 6 o’clock in the evening, check into a safari tent camp for the night. Day 10 (Tanzania Safari): Full Day at Serengeti National Park
If you would like, you can go on a sunrise or sunset game drive on this day. Then, after breakfast, you can spend the rest of the day exploring the Serengeti National Park’s boundless plains. The Great Wildebeest Migration herds spend the most of the year here, making it the home of the Big Five (from October to August each year). The location of the animals’ concentration within the Serengeti will be shown to you by our safari guide. Please allocate an extra day to more easily explore the Serengeti in case the herds are considerably farther north. In the Serengeti National Park Visitors Center, which serves as a resource center for people visiting the park while on a safari in Tanzania, a picnic lunch will be served. You will return to your camp in the late afternoon to unwind by the campfire. Spend the night At Central Serengeti bush Camp.
Day 11 (Tanzania Safari): Ngorongoro Crater Tour
On the 11th day of your 12 Days Mount Kilimanjaro and wildlife Safari, Today, after touring the Serengeti, we depart early from our hotel and travel to the Ngorongoro Crater. We will stop briefly at the Naabi Hill Gate to register before continuing on to the crater rim, where we will descend the 600-meter-high cliffs into the Ngorongoro Crater’s floor, sometimes referred to as the world’s eighth wonder. The remainder of the day will be spent on wildlife drives at Tanzania’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ngorongoro Crater, and a wonder of the world. A very small region (approx 21 kilometers across), Ngorongoro Crater is home to a wide variety of animals and birds that can be observed up close. The African Big Five, which include elephants, lions, buffaloes, leopards, and the endangered black rhinos, may be seen with a little luck. We will climb the crater walls later in the afternoon before checking into a resort in Karatu or within the conservation area. Spend the night close at Karatu’s Pamoja Africa Farm Resort or Country Lodge. Included are all meals.
DAY 12: Ngorongoro—Back to Arusha
After breakfast at your lodge, you can pay an additional fee to take a guided nature walk down the Endoro Trail to the elephant caverns while taking in the landscape and environment. Until it’s time to take the journey back to Arusha, where the safari comes to a close, you can unwind at your resort. Then, depending on whether you are doing a combination climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, safari, and Zanzibar Beach, you will either be dropped off at the Arusha domestic airport for a flight to Zanzibar Island or transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your trip back home.
